Why We Love The Air Fryer

To quote Oprah, “I love bread.” I also love ice cream, french fries, and chips. And I’m pretty sure you do to. Of course, there are ways to enjoy all of those things and still live a healthy lifestyle. But gym memberships and healthy foods often cost too much, or take too much work out of an already busy day. Luckily, at Dash we love an affordable way to make enjoying our favorite foods a little more unprocessed.

In honor of the air fryer and its ability to make anything crispy and delicious with absolutely no extra oil, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite five recipes from our amazing air fryer cookbook, Air Frying For Everyone, so you can get inspired! Air fry away!

 

Crab Cake Recipe
Ingredients

8 oz lump crab meat, cooked
½ cup unsalted, plain bread crumbs
2 eggs
1 tsp kosher salt
¼ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp onion powder
½ tsp Cajun seasoning
1 tsp dill, minced
1 tsp parsley, minced
Spicy Mayo
1 tbsp Sriracha
3 tbsp mayonnaise
Directions
Combine crab meat, bread crumbs, eggs, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, Cajun seasoning, dill and parsley in bowl and mix thoroughly. Form into 2” balls and flatten into round discs. Place 2-3 patties in Air Fryer in one layer and fry for 10 minutes. Combine Sriracha and mayonnaise and stir to combine. Serve crab cakes with spicy Sriracha mayo and lemon wedges, if desired.

Egg Roll Recipe
Ingredients

1 lb ground pork
2 cups garlic chives, cut into 2-3” slices
1 cup shiitake mushroom, sliced
2 cups carrots, shredded
1 tbsp peanut oil
2 tsp Thai shrimp paste
Thai soy sauce, to taste
10-15 egg roll wrappers
vegetable oil, as needed
Directions
Heat peanut oil in a large sauté pan on medium. Add pork and cook 3-5 minutes, breaking up large chunks. Add garlic chives, shiitake mushroom, carrots, shrimp paste and soy sauce. Cook 10-15 minutes, stirring, until pork is mostly cooked through moisture from vegetables has evaporated from the pan. Remove from heat and let cool.
Place approximately 3 tbsp of mixture at the base of egg roll wrapper, ½ inch from the bottom edge and ½ inch from the sides. Tuck in both sides and roll the wrapper to enclose mixture. Wet the top ½ inch of the egg roll wrapper to seal roll.
Place 2-3 egg rolls in Air Fryer in one layer, avoiding overlapping or wrappers touching each other. Drizzle with vegetable oil. Fry 10 minutes until wrappers are golden brown on top. Flip egg rolls and fry another 10 minutes.

Falafel Recipe
Ingredients

1 can chickpeas, drained, rinsed, spun dry
2 cloves garlic
½ cup red onion, chopped
2 tbsp dill, chopped
2 tbsp parsley, chopped
2 tbsp - ¼ cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp kosher salt
¼ tsp ground cumin
¼ tsp paprika
1 dash cayenne pepper (optional) 
1 dash cinnamon (optional) 
¼ tsp white sugar
10 grinds black pepper
1 tbsp olive oil
Directions
Combine chickpeas, garlic, onion, dill, parsley, salt, cumin, paprika, cayenne, cinnamon, black pepper in food processor and pulse until smooth. Add all-purpose flour, 1 tbsp at a time, until mixture is moist but not wet and can be easily formed into balls. 
Wet hands with olive oil. Scoop 1 tbsp of falafel mix at a time and form into round balls. 
Place 5-6 falafel into the Air Fryer, in one layer, and air fry for 10 minutes. Flip the falafel balls. Air fry for another 10-25 minutes, or until falafel balls are brown on the inside and cooked entirely.

Lemon Shishito Pepper Recipe
Ingredients

10-12 shishito peppers
2 tsp vegetable oil
1 tsp kosher salt
½ lemon, cut into wedges (optional)
Directions
Place shishitos into Air Fryer and toss with salt and vegetable oil. Fry for 15 minutes. Squeeze fresh lemon onto shishitos and shake. Serve immediately. 

Easy Donut Recipe
Ingredients

1 can biscuit dough
3 tbsp melted butter
⅓ cup granulated sugar
½ tsp cinnamon (adjust to your taste) 
4 tbsp dark brown sugar
pinch of allspice
Directions
Combine the sugar, cinnamon, brown sugar, and allspice in a small bowl and set aside. Remove biscuits from can (do not flatten), and use a 1-inch circle biscuit cutter to cut holes out of the center of each biscuit. 
Air fry the donuts for 5 minutes each and air fry the cut-out holes for just 3 minutes. 
As each batch of donuts and holes comes out of the fryer, use a pastry brush to paint butter over the entire surface of each donut and hole. After each donut and hole is painted with butter, drop them into the bowl with the sugar mixture and coat completely with the mixture. Gently shake off excess. Serve donuts and holes warm.
